Attractive places to visit in Kuakata:
The city of Kuakata and the sea beach are separated by an embankment. At the mouth of the embankment there is a list of names and distances of different tourist spots in Kuakata. There are also symbols to show direction of the spots. This is a great help for the traveller to figure out the sights of Kuakata. Apart from this list, there are few more tourist spots in Kuakata, which can likewise be visited by travellers with the assistance of tourist guides or locals.
One should never miss this if you visit Kuakata and that is the amazing sunrise and the marvellous view of the sunset. To enjoy the sunrise, you need to fix your ride the night before so that you can wake up as early as possible. To get the best view of the sunrise Gangamati Char (island) is the best choice and to reach there the best choice of ride is bike and later you need to cross a small distance of river by small boats. Make sure to reach early so that you don’t miss the first trip, otherwise you will miss the sunrise.
Later you can visit Kakra Dip (Crab Island), there you’ll find thousands of red crabs loitering around the sandy shore. To reach the island you need to travel by sea boats or speed boats if you visit around March-October.
At the western end of Kuakata beach is Shutki Palli, a place where you’ll find all the fishermen busy at work. Shutki is actually dried fish, one of the most demanding local food of our country. The fishermen catches fishes from the sea and dries them at the beach. Ones they are perfectly dried then they are ready for the market. There you will find verities of shutki at a low price so grab some for taking back home.
Mishti Panir Kua (sweet water well) - Kua actually means well in English. This well actually bears the witness to the history behind the name of this place. To visit this well, you have to go to Keranipara (a tribe), where all the Rakhaine people lives. The well was actually dug by the Rakhaine settlers who came here in 1784 as refuges. This well was dug for fresh water as the sea water wasn’t suitable to use. Later the place was named after this well. Once you visit the well, don’t miss a visit to Seema Budhhist Temple. This temple is located very close to the well of Kuakata. There you will see the ancient Buddhist statue made of octahedron which weighs about 36 mannas.
You can also visit Fatra Forest, Misripara Budhhist Temple, Keranipara, Zhaubon, Jungle of Gangamati and etc.
Last but not the least there are few tips to make your trip safer and hassle free:
- Be careful if you are travelling during monsoon as the tide stays high with very speedy current flowing through.
- Follow the signal and cautious signboard before diving into the sea.
- Feel free to bargain while hiring a boat or CNG to reduce costs.
- You can travel in groups to reduce cost.
- Be friendly with the local people, they are very helpful in nature.
- Don’t forget your beach essentials to protect yourself from the sunlight.
