About Chennai

About Chennai International Airport
Chennai International Airport is Tamil Nadu's main international gateway and the airport used for every Dhaka to Chennai flight, whether non-stop or via a connection. Operated by the Airports Authority of India, it is one of the country's busiest airports and the principal air link into South India.
Located in Tirusulam, around 21 km southwest of Chennai city centre, the airport opened in 1930, making it one of India's oldest airports, originally known as Madras Airport and later Meenambakkam Airport. It handled over 22 million passengers in the 2024–25 financial year across two runways, the primary one around 3,658 metres (12,000 feet) long, and is served by more than 30 airlines flying to over 60 destinations across around 20 countries.
The International Terminal handles all international flights, including the non-stop Dhaka to Chennai route, and has recently been expanded with an additional integrated terminal building. The Kamaraj Domestic Terminal handles onward domestic connections, useful if your trip continues elsewhere in India. The airport does not have a CAT-III landing system, so poor-weather delays are more likely during the November to December monsoon.
