You have to start the journey early in the morning at around 8:00 AM from Dampara Bus stand, Chattogram and head towards Rangamati. It will take you around few hours to reach Rangamati. Kaptai Lake is just an hour from Rangamati so hopefully by noon you will reach Kaptai Lake.
The largest lake in Bangladesh is Kaptai Lake. It is situated in the Kaptai Upazila of Chittagong Division's Rangamati District. The lake was formed as a result of the Karnaphuli Hydro-electric Project's construction of the Kaptai Dam on the Karnaphuli River. The contribution of Kaptai Lake is significant in navigation, flood control, and agricultural cultivation.
Kaptai Lake is 'H'-shaped and got two arms, joined by a narrow gorge close to Shubalong Waterfall, a part of the old Karnafuli River. Kasalong is the right arm of the lake which is fed by two streams, the Mayni and the Kasalong, in the north and by the Karnafuli River. The left arm is fed by two streams, the Chengi in the north and the Rinkhyong in the south.
Apart from generation of hydroelectricity, the lake has become an important resource for some other considerations. It has created a diversified and long waterway. Many places that used to take a day or even more to reach have now become an hour's trip by speedboat or launch. It has become much easier to exploit forest resources that had earlier been inaccessible. The entire lake is now a great tourist attraction.
You can hire a boat, choose depending on how many people will take the enjoyable ride and amaze your soul with the clean water lake with a jaw dropping view of hilly areas. You can also carry some snacks on the boat and don’t forget to click plenty of pictures to take them back home.
Everyday thousands of visitors or tourists visits the lake and the rainy season is the best time to visit as the lake stays full. If you plan to swim on the lake then make sure to carry extra pair of clothes.
After visiting all these places head back to the shore by 5:30 PM so that you can take the bus to reach back home on time.
