Sairu Hill is situated in Bandarban District which is located to the South-Eastern side of Chittagong (now known as Chattogram) Division, Bangladesh. Ages ago there lived a king of a mountain tribe in Bandarban who had a very beautiful daughter named Sairu. This young Mro maiden was deeply in love with a young man whose father was also a king but of a different hill tribe. There was a conflict among the tribes hence people from one tribe were prohibited to socialize with the other.
The two young love bird’s feelings were inseparable and abide all the rules and restrictions, they continued to meet secretly in the hills. They kept seeing each other until one day the tribe figured about their relationship. This led to a disastrous situation and the boy was forced to marry a girl from his own tribe. Sairu was extremely disheartened and began to wander around the hills out of depression, until one day when she was never found again.
There’s a pair of trees entwined to each other which can be spotted at the top of the hill which symbolizes the innocence of their true love. Hence that spot is now named after the couple and known as the Sairu Point.
