Firstly if you prepare yourself knowing what you are getting into, will be the biggest things you can do to make your family trip go smoothly.
There’s nothing quite like the window seat view from and airplane but that won’t be just enough to keep your kids happy all through the flight. There are many more things to keep in mind, from toys to electronic devices, everything should be ready to have a smooth travel.
So here I have sorted down few tips that might be a game changer for you while travelling with your kids.
- Explain the Trip
- Take it Slow and Leave Plenty of Time
- Pre-Book Everything You Can
- Travel Entertainment
- Pack all your essentials
Explain the Trip:
Explaining and introducing your child to the trip ahead is very important and especially if it is their first experience.
Kids usually get very uncomfortable around too many new things around so it’s better if you explain them earlier. Give your child and overall outline of your trip and what will be happening next so that it helps your kid understand the situation at each part of the trip. They will realize what to expect and as a result the kids will feel comfortable.
Give them a complete overview regarding the behavior they should maintain while on a flight, bus, train, hotel, tour and etc. Once your child understands the situation, they will tend to be happier and excited to execute challenges better.
Take it Slow and Leave Plenty of Time:
Keep your timetable free and leave a lot of space for change. An adaptable timetable will make less pressure for you and your family and lead to a more joyful outing in general. We usually always think of doing this but we generally don’t act on it but if you have kids with you it is really very important to have plenty of time in hand.
Be sure to reach the airport early so that there’s no excuse to miss your flight as because for example if you need a 10 minutes extra to get your stroller and bottles through security, others won’t be waiting for you.
At that point you are stuck at the airport holding back to be rescheduled with unhappy kids. Trust me, that is awful and you don’t want that!
Loosen your schedule and leave a lot of space for changes and adjustments. An adaptable timetable will make less pressure for you and your family and lead to a more joyful travel in general.
Pre-Book Everything You Can:
Anything you can book early is 1 less thing you need to stress over while planning a trip with your kids. Your flight and lodging are definitely pre-booked but for a comfortable trip you must pre-book your private and public transportation, airport transfer vehicles, sightseeing tours, private guides and tickets for museums, theme parks and other attractions as well.
Book as many as you’re sure you will need ahead of time and you will have more time to relax and enjoy your destination when you get there.
If all these are arranged beforehand, after your arrival you can just go straight to your lodging, drop off your luggage and give your kids a chance to freshen up and take some rest.
Travel Entertainment:
Travelling with kids means you have to keep them entertained and busy which is quite critical of a task. It can make the difference between a great trip and a miserable one.
Carrying Electronic Devices is a great way to keep your kids entertained and busy while travelling. Appropriate times like on flights, car rides, in long halts/queue or while waiting for performances are idle to let them use your personal electronics.
Whether you use a tablet, a phone, or a video game system, your kids are sure to be amused. Even if your home is typically electronics-free or you limit electronics, travelling is a time when you may want to let those rules slide for the kids.
Before your trip, make sure to download many of apps, movies or TV shows fry our child. There might be times when you will not have internet access, make sure you have a backup for that. Also don’t forget to carry you chargers and power banks to save you in need.
Pack all your essentials:
Taking a trip with you kids mean you have to carry all the necessities as you might be needing them at any time of your trip. Don’t over pack as that can be messy and extra load.
While packing make sure to take extra pair of clothes and plenty of diapers and wipes. Buy all the snacks your child craves for as you can use them as treats to make them listen to you and this will also help when your gets hungry during long halts or unexpected delays. You never know when the time between meals will get extended.
Please make sure to carry basic medicines while packing. If anyone falls sick while the trip, giving medicines on time can help you from a ruined trip. Things can get even worst if the entire family falls sick, it can be an upset stomach or nausea due to bumpy roads or fever. You better be prepared as medicine stores might be unavailable at your location.
Last but not the least, Accept Things Might Go Wrong
It might happen that you missed your bus as your little one needs to go to the washroom. Or maybe your son has left your phone in the Taxi and there’s no chances of getting it back.
There can be any unforeseen situations like this if you are travelling with kids. The sooner you accept the inevitable, the less stress you will feel when it really happens.
So better be extra careful and take mental preparations for a lot of patience do deal with any circumstances that might arise during your trip. Also make sure you don’t scold your child as he/she won’t be doing these on purpose.
Remember, travelling is a fun-filled adventure and even if you face a few bumps or hiccups, the experience you’re giving your kids is irreplaceable. So make your most out of the situations and help built magical memories.
